2024 Genesis eG80 Review | Should You Choose This Ride to Go Electric?
Introduced for the 2023 model year, the 2024 Genesis eG80 builds on the success of one of the brand’s most contemporary rides. It is one of three electrified rides in the lineup.
This electric car is promising a rare combination of performance, long-distance electric range, and true elegance. Should it be your first electric car? Or perhaps your second?
Check out this review to find out the answers to vital questions about luxury, technology, price and value.
What are Major Journalists Saying about the Electric G80?
Car and Driver calls the G80 a “budget Bentley”. This is for the way it punches way above its weight, offering a sumptuous cabin, chic styling, a controlled ride, and high-value price tag.
Motor Trend praises the G80 for its elegant, stately style and gorgeous, roomy interior. Edmunds has its own adjectives, including classy, pleasing, and appealing. This journalist also puts its spotlight on ownership perks, which are considerable for the electrified G80 as we will discuss in a later section.
US News and World Report notes that this electrified G80 has everything loved about the regular G80 and singles it out for its “high-brow interior” and “eager powertrain”. Perhaps the most relevant phrase for luxury shoppers is “a whole lot of class.”
The electrified G80 is now available in 33 states, including our own Arizona.
How Fast is the Electric Genesis?
If you look at performance, you’ll see the electrified G80 is the quickest in the lineup. Along with its remarkable range, this fact alone makes it the most fun. While the standard edition produces an excellent 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, the 2024 Genesis eG80 delivers 365 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.
Motor Trend notes that this powertrain lets the eG80 sedan run the 0-60 mph sprint in 4.1 seconds. Even if that were all it could do, this would be a good powertrain.
Of course, the fact that the 2024 eG80 does all of this without a drop of gasoline is what’s really remarkable. Even better, all-wheel drive is standard because the dual electric motors can deliver power to all four wheels as needed.
How Far Can the EG80 Go on a Single Charge?
According to EPA estimates, the electric driving range is 282 miles. This distance is easy to reclaim at a rapid charger. It just takes 22 minutes to go from 10 to 80 percent. This same smart charging architecture allows the owner to charge overnight in 7 hours, 22 minutes, taking it from 10 percent to 100 percent.
You may be eligible for up to three years of free charging at Electrify America. That’s a nice thank-you gift from Genesis.

What Does the Electrified G80 Cost?
The most recent figures quoted are around $75,000 for an electric G80 sedan. How does this compare to its rivals? We looked at prices for similar models by Tesla, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and other electric automakers. You can get a jump on a new electric sedan with our fair trade appraisal form.
You might get the Mercedes-Benz EQE 35+ for around the same price, but your horsepower will drop from 365 with the Genesis to just 292 horsepower. Meanwhile you could get interested in a Lucid Air sedan, but you’ll be spending an estimated $12,000 more -- at a minimum.
A shopper can get the Tesla S for $25,000-plus over the cost of this fast-charging electric G80. The interior won’t be nearly as elegant, and the ownership perks won’t be nearly as good. Next up, the BMW eDrive50 sedan starts around $105,700, pushing it even further away from the more affordable, yet incredibly well-equipped and luxurious new eG80.
Does this Electric Sedan Have a Truly Upper Class Design?
The 2024 Genesis eG80 is packed with the high quality materials you want, and the style is truly upper class in every way. It combines the best of classic good looks with the most comforting modern refinements.
Leather and microsuede are just the start of this model’s soft-touches. ErgoMotion seating comes with all the vitals, including power-heat and power-ventilation. In fact, Genesis offers everything a Phoenix AZ passenger may need for comfort when the desert sun is beating down. This includes air-cooled front seats, rear side shades, a rear power shade, and tri-zone climate controls.
Electric Genesis cockpits have a 14.5-inch infotainment screen and an 8-inch digital screen that supplements the instrument cluster. Navigation and entertainment are covered by the Genesis system as well as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and HD Radio. You can take advantage of satellite radio connectivity, a WiFi hotspot, and Genesis Connected Services.
A surround-view monitor puts perimeter views on the large center screen. A blind spot monitor does the same on the go with live footage of what’s behind the electrified G80. Connected Care includes automatic collision notification and a button for SOS situations or enhanced roadside assistance.
What are the Actual Ownership Perks?
As mentioned, up to three years of roadside charging is a major perk. That’s just the beginning of its extras.
Only Genesis offers three years (36,000 miles) of scheduled maintenance with the purchase or lease of a luxury car. This includes a complimentary valet and a courtesy replacement as needed. Furthermore, it covers the whole package for up to five years under its limited warranty. That’s two years more than the industry average.
Then it covers the powertrain for up to 120,000 miles or 10 years. There are other electric manufacturers who may match this, but it is unlikely that they can match the total coverage as already expressed above.
Plus a new Genesis comes with three years of complimentary navigation updates and SiriusXM Traffic. A 3-year complimentary subscription to Genesis Connected Services includes helpful features like a remote start function for fast getaways and Destination Search for enhanced points-of-interest assistance.
If you put almost any rival head to head with the electric G80, you will notice just how much more you get for your automotive dollar. That’s probably the biggest perk of all: extra comforts, better technologies, and more luxuries for your automotive dollar.
What is the Car’s Safety Record?
Safety is very important at Genesis, and we are happy to report that the 2024 G80 is a Top Safety Pick Plus in 2023. In fact, the manufacturer generally earns this award for all of its individual models after they have been crash-tested and examined by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Furthermore, the Genesis asking price includes more systems to cover more angles than you’ll find for the same money on a rival luxury electric sedan. For instance, Genesis is still one of the few to standardize steering assistance with the blind spot monitor or a reverse brake with the rear cross traffic system.
Semi-autonomous aids build on lane keeping assistance and Smart Cruise Control, creating Highway Driving Assist to handle more situations. A Remote Parking Assist really takes the stress out of tight parking situations. Financing pre-approval gets you started toward one of these high-tech G80s.
You can get behind the wheel if you schedule a test drive or just drop by your Scottsdale Genesis electrified G80 dealer.
