2024 Genesis GV60 Review
For the new model year, the 2024 Genesis GV60 continues its winning streak. Its popularity has built on its true luxury status, powerful electric motors, and long-distance electric range.
This review takes a look at style, value and packaging. Is the new EV right for your lifestyle? Take a look.
What’s New for 2024?
The 2024 Genesis GV60 is just brimming with individuality as well as technological breakthroughs.
To improve how the vehicle serves the driver, Genesis doubled its efforts to bring AI, machine learning, and biometrics into the mainstream. Examples include the navigation-interface for smart cruise control and fingerprint identification for entry.
Unlike many electric vehicles, the Genesis EV has 800-volt architecture for truly fast charging. This makes it capable of the quickest charges at home or at roadside charging stations. Dual electric motors ensure the best type of all-wheel drive.
Vehicle-2-load functionality is an Advanced and Performance GV60 standard. This V2L capability allows the driver to reverse the flow of power from the battery to an appliance. This can be used at a campsite, in the backyard, or even in the home.
Does GV60 Earn its Luxury Car Status?
Ward’s rewarded the GV60 with its 10 Best Interiors and UX Award, recognizing the unique and luxurious interior as well as its technology. By making this prestigious list, the Genesis EV demonstrates its ability to earn the luxury side of its pricetag.
Every element has been considered before being incorporated into the design. Only the best materials are utilized, and the luxury fit-and-finish is impeccable in the 2024 Genesis GV60. It is packaged to surpass its price tag in sophistication and class.
Among its iconic details, there’s a special rotating shifter. This orb seems to float as the driver enters or exits, adding atmosphere. The side mirror controls, while less flashy, are still interesting with their joystick-grip design.
In the announcement that the GV60 is AutoGuide Electric Vehicle of the Year, one judge said that the Genesis GV60 is a rebuttal to anyone who thought electric cars had to lack personality. Everything about the EV reflects a flair for design that balances familiar classic elements with modern technologically-advanced materials and tools.
What is Fingerprint Recognition?
Fingerprint recognition was first introduced on the Genesis GV70. Perfect for electric vehicles, it is standard on the Advanced and Performance AWD GV60 trim levels.
Using this technology is another way of tailoring the ownership experience. Your fingerprint interfaces with the car, like a smart key. It relays to the various systems, including the GV60 driver’s seat, mirrors, infotainment system, and power-adjustable steering wheel.
Much went into creating this system to make sure it was fast and accurate in every circumstance. One hurdle was getting a highly reliable sensor quality. Fingerprint tech has to be foolproof. Therefore, fingerprints don’t remain as images. They become code, and that makes the system extremely secure.
What Are the 2024 Genesis EV Trim Levels?
GV60 Advanced models come with leather upholstery, ventilated power chairs, and a leatherette-wrapped instrument panel. A Vision Roof has a power shade to shelter the interior when extra light isn’t needed.
The cockpit has dual screens with full digital instrumentation and an expansive infotainment system. Other aspects include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an available Wi-Fi hotspot, and dual-zone climate controls. Keeping things quiet, the windshield and all four side windows have been laminated for noise reduction.
GV60 power liftgates have a standard hands-free function. An auto-defogging windshield is equipped with rain-sensing wipers. Additional standards on both trims include a long list of driver assistance and the most effective parking aids.
Stepping up to the GV60 Performance trim level, the package includes the most powerful battery output and the most advanced suspension. Nappa leather upholstery and a suede headliner add to the opulence. The front and rear seats gain more comfort functions.
How Big is the GV60?
The 2024 GV60 is a true SUV. It has a passenger cabin with 101.1 cubic feet of volume. The cargo hold is 24 cubes, rising to 54.7 cubes with a flat-fold second row seat.
Ensuring comfort, the standard 14-way power driver’s chair has a cushion extension and 4-way power lumbar. The 12-way power passenger seat also has this lumbar support. Best of all, both seats are power-ventilated to cool you off on a hot summer’s day in Phoenix AZ.
Unique to Genesis, the driver’s chair has smart posture care to help reduce the chances of fatigue. 2024 Genesis GV60 drivers have fully-integrated walk-in memory for their seat, and front seat passengers have a similarly useful walk-in device.
Performance trim levels add a power-adjustable seat extension. Plus owners enjoy massage via its Ergo Motion technology. Rear outboard seats gain power-heat functions.
All second-row seats have a folding armrest, rear-facing USB ports, and AC vents. Plus GV60 passengers enjoy excellent second-row legroom with a no-hump, flat floor.
How Fast and How Far Can the GV60 Go?
The Advanced AWD powertrain creates up to 314 horsepower. The torque rate is a thumping 448 lb-ft. Essentially this all-electric SUV is 50 percent more powerful than the average luxury SUV this size, class and price.
With the Performance AWD powertrain, the battery pack allows the driver to claim up to 429 horsepower under normal conditions. A Boost Mode lets the driver claim 438 horsepower for ten seconds of acceleration for entering, passing or just being competitive. The torque rate for this Genesis EV is 516 lb-ft.
The GV60 driving range depends on whether you choose the Advanced AWD or Performance AWD model. Advanced models offer 248 miles of range. With the available rear wheel drive edition, the range may extend to 280 miles.
Since an 800-volt ultra fast charger is built right into the machine, owners get the most from a roadside rapid charger. The charge boosts from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. Overnight, the 2024 Genesis GV60 takes about 7 hours, which is about an hour less than many rivals today.
Is GV60 a 4WD SUV?
With either the advanced or performance trim levels, the 2024 GV60 drivers enjoy all-wheel drive. With the second motor attached to the rear axles, this ensures all-weather traction and incredible rear-wheel driving fun.
Performance trims add an electronically controlled suspension. This road preview system can recognize what’s coming and act to counter the bumps or dips. They have an electronically controlled, mechanical limited-slip differential for more adventurous travel.
With such strength and power, this EV is rated for up to 2,000 pounds of towing capacity. This assumes that trailer brakes and a safety hitch are added. More than anything, this towing capability suggests the overall strength and durability of this 100-percent electric SUV.
What Driver Assistance Is Standard?
Unique to Genesis, the smart cruise control has a navigation interface. This helps the SCC drive more cautiously going into curves. The SCC stop-and-go capability allows it to move safely with traffic. A lane following assist works with the cruise control. Highway Driving Assist goes further with semi-automated ability.
Every modern driver assistance is covered. This includes a blind spot monitor with collision avoidance, a forward collision warning with an autobrake, and a lane keeping system with a steering assist. Additional safety measures include high beam assistance and a driver attention warning.
The Genesis Blind Spot View Monitor allows you to push a button to see what’s behind the vehicle. This camera view shows on your screen, providing an unobstructed view.
Does the GV60 Park Itself?
Whether it’s the GV60 Advanced or Performance trim, the model has everything a modern driver could expect for parking. This includes a smart parking assist that can park the car for you.
A surround view camera system is another parking standard on this luxury EV. There is avoidance assistance and autobrake capability for the parking distance warning sensors and the rear cross traffic alert.
After parking, a Safe Assist tries to prevent the car’s occupants from stepping into traffic. A rear occupant alert will signal the driver if there is a reason to think that there are children on the second row.
What is the GV60 Price and Value?
When the GV60 took home the AutoGuide Electric Vehicle of the Year Award, it had to prove itself in terms of value as well as the other important categories.
On the one hand, it offers technologies found on the most expensive Mercedes Benz or BMW rivals. On the other, it provides the type of luxury, durability and reliability that often is missing with Tesla models. Thus the GV60 base price is actually a bargain, considering how much you get for your luxury dollar.
JD Power APEAL studies show the GV60 is living up to its promises. Owners were asked extensively about their vehicle after the first 3 months of driving. The score demonstrates that the Genesis electric vehicle is doing its job and doing it well in all categories. GV60 earned the top small premium SUV in the 2023 APEAL study.
Furthermore, some will try to compare the GV60 price to the Kia EV6 or Hyundai Ioniq 5. However, these are lower-powered vehicles that do not offer the luxury materials, technologies, or advanced features found on every Genesis SUV today.
